Hello! My name is Kylie Weber and I have the fortune of getting to share with you about an exciting event we have coming up with everyone, here on Live Love Ligonier!
I started last year as the youth coordinator at Covenant Presbyterian Church and I get to be a part of making a lot of fun things happen for the youth of Ligonier! Kids in 6th through 12th grades meet weekly (in middle and high school groups) on Wednesday nights for youth group and Sunday mornings for Sunday School. We are taking a break from regularly scheduled things for the summer (but see our summer calendar on our website for all the fun events we have planned in the meantime!)
We meet Wednesday nights during the school year for a VERY popular youth group called "PrimeTime", which is energetic to say the least. Middle school meets from 5-6:30 pm and high school from 7-8:30, but both times look similar; we play a game, sing together, hear a short introduction to our Scripture and topic for the night, then we break up into smaller grade-level groups to unpack and apply what the Bible says about living to our lives.
This ministry is unique in that small groups Wednesday and Sunday are so loved by the students they have become a part of the culture. There are arguably few other times these days in a student’s life where they are given the opportunity to slow down and talk honestly about the lives they are living and try to wrestle with how to live out their faith outside of Sunday mornings and Wednesday night. Ask any student what their favorite part is and they will almost always say small groups! I love it, because it might be my favorite part too!
This year we are trying something new and taking our middle school students on Pine Spring’s Mission EX camp. The Valley Youth Network takes high school students on an awesome mission trip every year (they just got back from the Dominican Republic!), that a lot of PrimeTime high school students attend, but this is the first mission trip we have done for middle school students. We have seven girls and one leader attending, and all but one of the girls are in 6th grade! They are so excited to experience this for the first time. As part of Pine Springs’ program we will be doing work projects at several inner-city Johnstown ministries, some of which are New Day Ministries, St. Vincent DePaul’s, and Johnstown Christian Children’s School. Funds need to be raised for housing the girls as they serve the public in those areas.
Which brings me to Myriam’s Table Café and Cheese Shop. Chef Lisa has a long history of supporting local missions, and this is just further evidence of her compassion: this whole weekend, June 15-17, they will donate a portion of the cost of every meal to this mission trip! All you have to do is give them a ticket. These tickets are completely FREE and are available at the Covenant Church Office and at the Café itself. You can also email, text, or call me and I will make sure you get as many as you want! My contact info will be at the bottom.
Myriam’s Table Café and Cheese Shop is one of my favorite restaurants in town (and elsewhere) so I am especially excited about this! They have daily farm-to-table breakfast and lunch specials that are inspired and delicious. I am usually not an adventurous eater, but Chef Lisa and her awesome staff have shown me the light. They have never once steered me wrong!
This weekend also includes two special dinner events that the Café is well known and loved for. First, Friday evening they are having their Mediterranean Grill, featuring a variety of Italian, French, and Middle Eastern cuisine. Chef Lisa has a stunning biography and has learned from chefs all over the world, and I can promise you’re not going to want to miss this.
Then come back for round two Saturday night with their Argentinian-Brazilian Grill, featuring a selection of beef, pork, lamb, chicken, and shrimp in the shell, platters of grilled and roasted vegetables, and a selection of four sauces on the side, all served family style. I have been assured that no one will leave hungry! Just pay a set price, then come in to help yourself to as much as you can eat. Reservations are required for this event, but they are strongly recommended for any meal all weekend long. The Café fills up quick because the secret of its brilliance has not been very well-kept!
Fundraiser or no, these events are ones you are not going to want to miss. It’s Father’s Day weekend, too, so why not take the father figure in your life out to celebrate all he does with one of the things he probably enjoys most - AMAZING FOOD!
